NEW DELHI: The government is working to evolve a consensus on the pension reforms bill and hopes it would be passed in the current session of Parliament, Minister of State for Finance P K Bansal said on Wednesday.
"I am not pessimistic," he told reporters when asked whether the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill would be passed in this session of Parliament.
The government was trying to bring everyone on board to clear the Bill, he said on the sidelines of a seminar on stock markets organised by Institute of Directors.
"We want everyone to support it. We are working toward that direction," Bansal said.
Shiv Sena MP and former union minister Suresh Prabhu also voiced support for the Bill, saying some ways have to be found to fund the pension outgo.
"What is wrong with the Bill?" he asked, adding six year down the line pension liability of the government would be more than what it pays on salary.
Prabhu, however, evaded a reply to a query whether the Shiv Sena would support the Bill in the house.
