The government would soon appoint Tax Ombudsmen throughout the country to redress the grievances of tax payers.
NEW DELHI: The government would soon appoint Tax Ombudsmen throughout the country to redress the grievances of tax payers.
"Tax Ombudsman schemes have been notified and the selection process is underway," Finance Minister P Chidambaram said after meeting the Chief Commissioners and Director General of Income Tax.
The idea is to resolve disputes or grievances which tax payers have against the department and trying to make life easy for assessees, he said.
Disputes like delay in refund, non-issuance of PAN card, repeated enquiry on the same issue by the tax department are issues for which there is no legal remedy through the appellate Commissioner or ITAT would be taken up by the Ombudsman, he said.
Tax Ombudsman would be appointed across the country under different jurisdictions and they would have powers to resolve disputes of assesses like consumer redressal forum, Finance Minister said.
