Gallery Sanskriti mounts photography show with Wonderwall

KOLKATA: Kolkata-based Gallery Sanskriti, in collaboration with Delhi gallery Wonderwall, has mounted a photography show which has been thrown open from March 12. It will continue till March 31. The central theme of the exhibition hovers around "Faith". Each photographer’s signature style is reflected in the 22 colour and 2 black and white photographic works.

"The photographers have shot at different places and icons of worship, across a gamut of religions, which all symbolise the element of faith. The photographs embrace Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism amongst others. One of the major facets of the destinations of religious practice and religions is the colours that they manifest. This aspect stands out in the works in the show through variegated textures that invest the photographs," Ajay Rajgarhia, director of Wonderwall and curator of the exhibit, told ET.

In fact, Rajgarhia, who has specialised in putting up photographic exhibits at his gallery in Delhi, has already staged "Faith" at his gallery. "Capturing still life, people and arresting situations, the works come up with a range of interpretations of faith. The show features eight Indian photographers," said Ajay.

Incidentally, amongst famed destinations covered figure Benares, Mathura, Amritsar, Kashmir, Delhi, Calcutta, Hardwar, Trancobar and Ladakh, to mention some.

While a few of the smaller-sized photographs measure 16 by 24 inches, the larger ones are 24 by 64 inches. The works range between Rs 30,000 and Rs 1.50 lakh.

"One is seeing a growing interest in photography as an art form. Going forward, galleries are likely to place increasing weightage on photographic shows," concluded Rajgarhia.
