ET Dialogue on Luxury: Indiatimes Art Show 'Kaleidoscope'
With Indian art coming of age on the global platform, it is being increasingly seen as an investment opportunity while remaining a niche market.
A kaleidoscope carries three pieces of mirrors slanting towards each other at 45 degrees and a few colorful filings, which when watched through a view finder appear in astonishingly innovative patterns by multiple reflections. Consider the nascent- modernism, modernism and post modernism in Indian art as the three slanting mirrors, artists belonging to these historical/aesthetical categories as colorful filings and the view finder as the ken of contextualized art criticism then one would get magnificent reflections on Indian art ranging from the late 19th century to till date.
The current presentation of India Times Art, in several ways, is a kaleidoscopic view. A conveniently beautiful metaphor, the kaleidoscopic view predicates the collapse, merger and renewal of categories/patterns, which are subjective to the movement of the hands that in an aesthetic discourse hold the tools of criticism. Hence, this show throws open opportunities for the viewers, who could generate critical links between the given historical/aesthetical categories using their own faculties of engaging with the works of art.
