DLF files five patents on building safety and security
India's largest real estate developer DLF has filed five patents that are related to inventions for safety and security of its buildings and its residents.

It has invented the firestop cable barrier, it said in a statement, that is designed to "restore the fire-resistance ratings of wall and floor assemblies by impending spread of fire, which is done by sealing openings with fire resistant materials and covering cables and joints by fire resistant material."
Another patent has been filed for devising a unique method of diverting chilled water from a building's air-conditioning system in case of a fire. "The invention provides a method to utilise the chilled water to fight fire, which is in addition to the existing water storage system of the building.
Other patents filed include a technique for making tanks, which store inflammable and combustible liquids, fire resistant in above ground installations, a new method of indoor storage of lead acid batteries used in power back-up systems and a system for storing oil used for industrial and commercial purposes in such a way that it does not deteriorate with time.
"In these changing times, the most important feature of modern real estate development is to enable the buildings to be self-sufficient and reliant to avert any threat arising out of accidents like fire," said Ramesh Sanka, managing director, DLF Commercial Development.
