Delhi waives luxury tax for PBD delegates
The waiver of the 12.5 per cent luxury tax is aimed at making the stay of the delegates more economical and to boost attendance at the meet of the Indian diaspora.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has decided to waive luxury tax on hotel tariffs for delegates attending the Fifth Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) to be held here in January next year.
Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi was informed about the city government's decision at an inter-ministerial meeting today to review preparations for the PBD, according to an official release.
The waiver of the 12.5 per cent luxury tax is aimed at making the stay of the delegates more economical and to boost attendance at the meet of the Indian diaspora.
The Delhi government is a co-organiser of the event to be held during January seven-nine, 2007 along with the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and CII.
Ravi advised that a communication on the waiver should be sent to all associations of Indians living abroad.
There are about 1,000 associations of Indians living in different countries and their involvement will greatly facilitate the wide publicity of PBD-2007, Ravi said.
The fifth PBD on the theme "Rooting for the Roots -- Meeting India's Social Development Challenges" will focus on social sectors, including education, healthcare, women, youth and investment.
