DDA constructing over 70,000 flats in capital

NEW DELHI: Delhi Development Authority ( DDA) is constructing 70,160 flats in various areas of the capital such as Dwarka, Rohini, Narela, Kathputli Colony and Kalkaji Extension, Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy told Lok Sabha today.

In a written reply to a question on construction of flats by the DDA, he said, "The proposal for construction of flats at Kalkaji Extension and Kathputli are for in-situ rehabilitation for slums and JJ cluster."

The construction of 19,632 flats using pre-fab technology has already started in Dwarka, Rohini and Narela, he said.

On flats for the Economic Weaker Section (EWS), Roy said, "About 1220 EWS flats in Dwarka are completed and 512 EWS flats are in progress in Rohini. 760 Low Income Group (LIG) flats have been completed in Dwarka. Remaining flats are in various stages of planning and tendering."

Replying to a question on revision of parking charges by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), he said, " DMRC has revised parking charges on advice of Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) for the National Capital Region (NCR)."

The parking charges were hiked from September 2011 as these were very low in accordance with the advice of EPCA.

"Monthly parking charges for all the metro stations are the same, except for different daily charges at Patel Chowk and Vishwavidyalaya Metro Stations. The areas in the vicinity of these two stations are prime areas with no parking facilities other than the metro parking," Roy said.

The rates of parking at these two stations have been kept higher to limit the usage of road vehicles, he said.
