Cricketers to be taxed only for prize money in Australia

India's top cricketers can now heave a sigh of relief with the Cricket Board finally sorting out the tax issue with their Australian counterparts.

MELBOURNE: India's top cricketers can now heave a sigh of relief with the Cricket Board finally sorting out the tax issue with their Australian counterparts.

It has now been made clear that Indian cricketers will be taxed for the prize money they earn on the ongoing tour of Australia and not for their match fees.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah held discussions with Cricket Australia (CA) officials and said that touring cricketers would be taxed only on the prize money they earn on this tour.

"It's not their match fees which would be taxed in Australia on this tour. It's their prize money which would be taxed. It's the law of the land," Shah said today.

Shah also made it clear that the Board would not be footing the bill for the cricketers taxed on their prize money here.

"We do the same with cricketers who earn prize money in India. So it wouldn't be any different with our cricketers in Australia," he added.
