Christie's to sell Andy Warhol's collectables online

KOLKATA: Christie's is presenting "Andy's World", an online-only sale that gives collectors a glimpse into "A Day in the Life" of Andy Warhol. There are over 150 lots available, including images of Warhol's friends, New York City, his travels and much more.

This sale will continue the series of online-only auctions in partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. This sale features approachably-priced artworks with starting bids at $1,500.

"On the heels of the hugely popular Love sale, Christie's is delighted to offer Andy's World as the second online only sale of 2014 in partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts," said Amelia Manderscheid, Head of eCommerce for Post-War & Contemporary Art at Christie's. "This sale presents a rare glimpse into the everyday life of the Pop art master, from his views of New York to his immortalizations of close friends, including many who were famous in their own right. With this sale, we offer the new and seasoned collector alike the opportunity to acquire these moments captured in time."

The sale opens for bidding on Thursday, March 13 and will remain open for competitive bids through Tuesday, March 25. All browsing and bidding is done online.

Andy Warhol is widely recognized as one of the defining figures of 20th Century art and culture, as well as a philanthropist of extraordinary generosity. As an artist, he unabashedly embraced the populist and the commercial. As a philanthropist, he ensured that his giving would extend past his death by establishing The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, which received almost the entirety of his estate. Proceeds from this sale and all subsequent sales under the partnership benefit the Warhol Foundation's grant-making programs in support of artists and non-profit arts organizations.
