Christie's sale of The Piet and Ida Sanders Collection fetches $7,726,598

KOLKATA: Christie's sale of The Piet and Ida Sanders Collection realised a total of €5,885,138/$7,726,598/£5,048,271 and was sold 98% by lot and 99% by value. The top lot of the sale was Concetto Spaziale by Lucio Fontana, which sold for €1,261,500/$1,656,223/£1,082,115.

Jetske Homan van der Heide, senior specialist of The Piet and Ida Sanders Collection, commented in an email statement: ""The sale of The Piet and Ida Sanders Collection achieved tremendous results selling 98% by lot and 99% by value, which brought a total of €5,885,138 million. The top lot of the sale was Concetto Spaziale executed in 1954 by Lucio Fontana, which fetched €1,261,500.

""Further highlights were the sculptures by Marino Marini that could be found on the kitchen shelf at home with the Sanders family, and 204 Quadrangles by Jan Schoonhoven realising €397,500 and Karel Appel, Personage (Terreur) far exceeded its pre-estimate of €80,000-120,000, realising €385,500.
