Due to Chhath Puja, several states will experience temporary bank closures that will disrupt banking operations. Some banks will remain closed for four consecutive days, from November 7 to November 10, 2024.

Chhath puja is dedicated to the Sun God Surya, as it is believed that the sun is visible to all beings and the source of life for all species on Earth. Chhathi Maiya, as well as the Sun God, is worshipped on this day.

November 2024 bank holidays: Banks will be closed for 13 days in November; state-wise bank holiday list


It is celebrated especially in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh; and the Nepalese Autonomous provinces of Koshi, Lumbini, and Madhesh.


Banks in these states closed on November 7 (Thursday)

Chhath Puja Evening Arghya- Banks are closed in Bihar, Delhi, Jharkhand, and Bengal.

Chhath Puja (Morning Arghya) & Wangala Festival- Banks will remain closed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya.

This is followed by the usual second Saturday and Sunday bank holiday on November 9 and 10.

Long weekend will be observed in Bihar and Jharkhand state as banks will be closed from November 7 to 10.
