Cheshire Homes launches Livelihood Research Centre in 4 districts

COIMBATORE: The Cheshire Home,which provides care and shelter for the differently abled, has launched the " Livelihood Resource Centre' in four districts towards improvement of sustainable livelihood development.

Through this programme, to be implemented in and around Coimbatore, Tirupur,Erode and Dindigul districts,various types of differently abled people, are being identified to find out their basic needs by providing counselling along with their parents and caregivers, G R Govindraj, CEO of Cheshire Home told reporters here today.

They would then be given employability training under the Foundation course and the home would help them get wage employment and self-employment opportunities, based on their education and skills, he said.

Candidates would be given an opportunity in various vocations, including handicrafts, tailoring, computer, cell phone repair, receptionist, lift operators or to set up petty shops, he said.

Of the 488 differently abled people identified in Tirupur district so far, 23 candidates are undergoing vocational training programme, Govindharajan said.

The home is organising a two-day identification and needs assessment camp and a free job fair camp on Dec 18 and 19 for those living here and adjoining areas and industrialists and others who require such candidates have also been invited, Govindharajan said.
