CBEC extends last date of filing service tax returns to January 6

This is being done in view of the fact that assessees are facing problems in electronic filing of returns.

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has extended the last date for submission of half-yearly service tax returns by ten days to January 6, as assessees were facing problems in e-filing of returns.

"Central Board of Excise and Customs hereby extends the date of submission of half yearly return for the period April 2011 to September 2011, from December 26, 2011 to January 6, 2012," CBEC said in a notification today.

This is being done in view of the fact that assessees are facing problems in electronic filing of returns, it added.

The CBEC had earlier made it mandatory for all service tax assessees to submit half-yearly returns (Apr-Sep 2011) electronically.
