CBEC exceeds target in recovering arrears by 42%
The Central Board of Excise & Customs on Tuesday said it has exceeded the target for recovery of tax arrears by 42 per cent during 2007-08.
NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Excise & Customs on Tuesday said it has exceeded the target for recovery of tax arrears by 42 per cent during 2007-08.
As against the target of Rs 3,550 crore, the department has collected Rs 5,035 crore, CBEC said in a release.
"A well formulated action plan implemented in 2007-08 included the sensitisation of Commissioners and Chief Commissioners by holding review meetings at Zonal levels, initiating steps for vacation of the stay orders in deserving cases, filing early hearing applications in Courts or CESTAT (Custom Excise & Service Tax Appellate Tribunal)," it said.
Concerted efforts made by tax recovery cell in close coordination with the field offices, Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence and DGRI has aided in achieving this record realisation, it added.
