BENGALURU: The Aadhaar footprint is expanding. After PF, income tax returns and bank accounts, now land records and property documents will be linked to Aadhaar numbers in Bengaluru. The move, aimed at tackling benami properties and streamlining records, will be implemented from July.

The project will be carried out by the department of survey settlement and land records (SSLR), starting with one selected ward of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Part of the Urban Property Ownership Records (UPOR) project of the survey department, it will be in tune with the proposed national drive to weed out benami properties through digitalisation.

"Linking of Aadhaar would help in tackling the benami properties and illegal transactions related to properties," C N Sridhar, joint director in-charge of UPOR, told TOI.
