VIJAYAWADA: The Builders Association of Vijaywada has decided to stop all the construction works from Friday in response to a call given by the National Construction industry in protest against the abnormal rise in prices of steel, cement and other building material.
In a press release, Association President A V Subbaraju and General Secretary Y V Ramana Rao said the prices of construction material rose by fifty per cent in recent months.
The prices of cement increased to Rs 250 from Rs 130 a bag and the prices of steel which was 30,000 per tonne in December stood at Rs 60,000 now.
The construction industry would receive a big jolt and the ongoing development projects and housing schemes would get delayed if the government failed to take imediate measures to check the spiralling prices of steel and cement the media reported.
