Ravi Varma's oleographs have in the past stimulated the imagery of a few contemporary Indian artists. But, with this exhibition it would be provocative to speculate on the idea of the oleographs as catalysts, as offered to a larger group of Indian artists.
The exhibition hopes to bring new creative expression and imagery to art lovers. There will be many ways that the contemporary artistic sensibility will react to Ravi Varma's oleographs in particular and to popular art in general. This could range from the narrative to the ironic, the kitsch and the decorative or offer a commentary on contemporary times.
On sale will be limited products designed by the 20 drawers studio. Picking up the theme of oleographs will be mirrors, lamps, waistcoats, dresses for children, evening and tote bags, cushions, coasters and place mats. There will also be a limited collection of oleographs to buy.
