Arab crisis hits city development planning

The recent crisis in Libya and the rest of the Arab world is having repercussions on the city's infrastructure plans.

MUMBAI: The recent crisis in Libya and the rest of the Arab world is having repercussions on the city's infrastructure plans. A consortium of Indian and French urban planning companies—which was to prepare Mumbai's development plan (DP) —has backed out from the project. Sources in the BMC said a large part of the company's work in Libya has come to a standstill.

Their work involved preparing comprehensive land-use plans, thematic mapping, tracking growth scenarios, and preparing the DP.
