Aadhaar will now be mandatory for those appearing for open school exams. “During the exams held in March, inspection teams found proxy candidates appearing on other students' behalf. To check this practice, Aadhaar has been made mandatory with the approval of the HRD ministry,“ an official of the National Institute of Open Learning ( NIOS) said.

There will be scanners at examination centres and only those students whose thumbprints match those on the record will be allowed to take the exam, the official said. NIOS has also decided that schools without CCTV cameras will not be made exam centres.
