RAIPUR: Around 89 per cent families in Chattisgarh have been registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme ( NHIS).

Chhattisgarh is one of the leading states when it comes to registration for this scheme with its average being above the national average of 54 per cent, official said today.

Under NHIS, smart cards for around 89.3 per cent families have been prepared, they added.

The average registration in Kerala is 84 per cent, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh is 72 per cent each, Odisha 65 per cent, Bihar 54 per cent and Madhya Pradesh 49 per cent.

In Chhattisgarh, so far around 33.27 lakh families have been given the smart card as against the target of around 37.24 lakh families, they said.

Similarly, there is target to register over 19 lakh families under the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme, official added.

A special drive will be conducted in the state for registration of all families as per the target.

Those families, which have not been registered will be called on seventh of every month for the 'rice festival' at the cooperative society's shop. Here, they will be issued with smart cards, official added.

According to them, Chief Minister Raman Singh has set a deadline of five months to complete the target.

In the last two years, Rs 485 crore have been spent on treatment of around 7.69 lakh cases under these two schemes.
