82 firms violated PF norm
Eighty-two private firms in Gurgaon have not deposited the provident fund amount deducted from their employees salaries in time.
Officials said that they have already sent notices to 74 such establishments and they are in the process of recovering the amount from eight more companies.
Last month, the department had imposed huge penalty on a few major BPOs and MNCs operating in Gurgaon. Such violations often come to light and we serve them notices. Usually, there is 100% compliance immediately after the notices are issued. But a few firms have also challenged our move in the higher courts, said Beerbal Meena, regional commissioner of PF department.
However, he clarified that employees face no risk of losing their PF that has already been deducted. We collect the interest on the amount that any company has not deposited with us in time. So, employees interest is protected, Meena said.
Senior officials in the PF department said that as per the norms, private companies should deposit the deducted PF amount by 15th of next month. But in most of the cases, private companies dont follow this. They dont do this even after we have provided five more days of grace period. We collect both interest on the pending amount and also impose penalty in case of serious violation, one of them added.
As per the PF department records, nearly 26 lakh employees working in Gurgaon are covered under the PF network. A huge chunk of employees working in the organised sectors dont have the benefit of this saving instrument, said an official.
