3 companies evaded service tax worth Rs 3.80 crore in WB: CBEC

The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) today said three companies in West Bengal have evaded service tax to the tune of Rs 3.80 crore.

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) today said three companies in West Bengal have evaded service tax to the tune of Rs 3.80 crore.

Following an investigation, the CBEC said it found that "DK Enterprise", engaged in providing management, maintenance and repair services to National Highway and Public Works Department, had evaded service tax worth Rs 1.48 crore.

Further, 'Madan Mohan Consortium' and 'ABS Construction' -- both providing management, maintenance and repair services to government projects -- had evaded tax of Rs 66.62 lakh and Rs 1.65 crore, respectively, it said in a release.

CBEC said the firms "had been providing the service without...service tax registration and without paying any service tax".

It added that action to recover the service tax was in progress.
