What should silver buyers keep in mind ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali?

Since a lot of people must have been thinking of buying silver jewellery ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali, they should compare prices across jewellers before making a purchase. The IBJA rate is not the final rate that a jeweller offers. The final rate of a silver jewellery item may include the Goods and Services Tax (GST), making charges and other applicable costs.

Is silver hallmarking mandatory in India?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) introduced hallmarking for silver jewellery on a voluntary basis in October 2005. It incorporates the HUID hallmarking of silver jewellery/artefacts, which is aimed to improve traceability and is more like the hallmarking system for gold.
