Should You Buy
Earlier run as SBI Small and Mid Cap, this fund was repositioned as a small-cap offering a few years ago. The fund manager prefers high quality franchises to lower chances of mistakes. The fund house is acutely aware of the capacity constraints in small-cap funds. It occasionally gates inflows to prevent dilution in the fund’s liquidity and quality hygiene. It continues to cap the monthly SIP intake at `25,000. The fund boasts an impressive track record of outperformance over the years. However, it experienced a sharp drop in performance in 2021 and 2023, lagging behind the index and its peers sharply. The fund has put an improved showing so far this year. Boasting the lowest volatility in returns puts it ahead of many peers for risk-adjusted returns.
