Latest Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) tranche issue price is the highest since launch in 2015

The government has issued the latest Sovereign Gold Bond series III 2023-24, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has kept the settlement date of this tranche of Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2023-24 Series as December 22, 2023. The issue price is set at Rs 6,199/- (Rupees Six thousand one hundred and ninety nine only) per gram of gold

How the SGB issue price is set

The issue price of the latest SGB is set at Rs 5,926 per gram, which is based on the simple average of closing price [published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA)] for gold of 999 purity of the last three working days of the week preceding the subscription period.

First issue price
The RBI said that the price for the final redemption, which is based on the simple average closing price of gold for the week of November 20–24, 2023, will be Rs 6,132 per unit of SGB. Not that the first SGB tranche was distributed in 2015 at a cost of Rs 2,684 per gram.

It matured on November 30, if they had stayed invested full term their returns would have grown at a CAGR of 10.88%. Additionally, the bonds yielded interest at a 2.75% annual rate.
