Is there a new scheme promising Rs 20 lakh monthly returns? Here is what the government said
Beware of fake investment schemes promising huge monthly returns. Fraudsters are using misleading websites and AI-generated content, falsely associating Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman with these scams.

The platform is also misusing the name of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to appear credible and attract unsuspecting users.
The platform claims that Sitharaman is promoting an investment platform with Infosys chief Narayan Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy, promising monthly returns of up to Rs 20 lakh on a small investment of Rs 2,100. The website also asks users to submit their personal contact details for registration.
According to a clarification issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team, the claim is a scam and the image is fake artificial intelligence (AI-generated). The PIB Fact heck unit has clearly stated that neither the Finance Minister, nor the Government of India has endorsed any such investment scheme.
The PIB Fact Check team also informed that another fake investment video is circulating on social media, falsely showing Sitharaman endorsing a platform promising high returns. The video showing Sitharaman promising earnings of up to Rs 22 lakh per month from a small investment has been identified as digitally manipulated using AI.
The PIB Fact Check team suggested avoiding clicking on suspicious links as they may be phishing scams. It has advised not to share personal or financial details on such websites.
Always verify such claims through official government sources. Avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal or financial information online, the PIB Fact Check team says.
