How to open an NPS account using eNPS

The NPS is a defined contribution scheme of the government of India for all citizens. One can make regular contributions to the NPS account to create a retirement corpus. Here is the procedure to open an NPS account using the e-NPS facility.

Registration
Individuals can access the following link to register: https://enps.nsdl.com/eNPS/OnlineSubscriberRegistration. There are two ways to open a pension account. The procedure will change according to the approach chosen:
Registration using Aadhaar e-KYC
Registration using PAN


Aadhaar based e-KYC
The individual needs to upload Aadhaar paperless offline e-kyc ZIP file. This file can be downloaded from the UIDAI website. The 4 character share code created at the UIDAI website also needs to be entered. Upon successful authentication, the individual can key in other details in the form.

PAN based registration
The individual needs to key in bank account/demat account details to be used for KYC verification. KYC verification is carried out by the bank/non-bank POP (point of presence) selected by the individual. Once the details match, other mandatory details can be filled in.

Documents to be uploaded
Scanned copy of PAN card, cancelled cheque and scanned signatures must be uploaded in the prescribed format and size. The individual will then be guided to make payment towards the NPS account.

E-sign or send offline
After payment, the individual can either e-sign the form to complete the account opening process or print the form and send a physical copy to the central record keeping agency after signing and affixing his/her photogarph.

Points to note

• Contributions are reflected in the account within two working days.
• NRIs can also open NPS accounts.
