How the Most Wanted Stocks' portfolio fared in the past 3 years
The performance of ET Wealth’s portfolio of Most Wanted Stocks in the past three years has been a mixed bag. Two years saw it is keep pace with the Sensex, the BSE 500 index, and the diversified equity fund category, and one year saw it beat all three by a mile. Here is a closer look at how the portfolio performed during 2014-2016.

2014 Performance dragged down by few stocks but still ahead of the indices

The 2014 portfolio has delivered a mixed performance. McLeod Russel, Gateway Distriparks and KPIT have particularly disappointed. Even so, mutual funds still have high ownership in McLeod. Atul and Finolex Industries continue to be favourities for fund managers and analysts.

2015 More than double the returns of the BSE 500 and equity funds

With the exception of Axis Bank, which has been weighed down by concerns over rising NPAs, all stocks from the 2015 list have delivered handsome returns, comfortably beating all indices and diversified equity funds. Most have a negative view on Axis Bank, with near-term valuations deemed a stretch for a few like Bajaj Finserv and Coromandel.

2016 Mirrors rise of the Sensex but beaten by BSE 500 and equity funds

The stocks from the 2016 list have delivered returns on par with the benchmark Sensex but underperformed the broader BSE500 index and average diversified equity fund. Among the laggards, Chola and PI Industries are still preferred by analysts and funds alike while CARE has seen reduction in fund ownership. Among the winners, Finolex continues to find favour with analysts but Voltas is deemed expensive.
