Gold prices dipped significantly on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) on key jewellery brands such as Kalyan Jewellers, Joyalukkas and Malabar Gold & Diamonds while they remained static on Tanishq as global geopolitical factors impacted gold prices. Retail jewellery rates on India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd. (IBJA) showed a minor dip in gold rates.

Why gold prices are down

Prithviraj Kothari, president, IBJA, said gold and silver slipped to one-month lows amid stalled US-Iran talks and the Strait of Hormuz closure, which has severed roughly 20% of global oil supply — the largest supply shock on record as per the IEA.

"Rising energy costs, a stronger dollar, and firm inflation expectations are compounding headwinds for precious metals. Markets are pricing in a higher-for-longer rate trajectory, further weighing on precious metals," says Kothari.

Gold price outlook

With the Bank of Japan already holding rates steady, and the Fed, ECB, Bank of England, and Bank of Canada due to announce decisions imminently, near-term weakness and volatility in metals markets is likely to persist."
