Gold price today (April 17, 2026) in Chennai ahead of Akshaya Tritiya: 24K, 22K gold rates at leading jewellers, IBJA

In a cheer for gold buyers in India, prices of the yellow metal declined on Friday (April 17, 2026) ahead of Akshaya Tritiya. After rising for the last three days, gold rates in India fell as the Indian Rupee rose in opening trade, climbing to a one-week high amid reports that the RBI took steps to curb the impact of dollar buying by state-run oil refiners.

The gold price drop would bring relief to buyers who are looking forward to purchasing a piece of jewellery on Akshaya Tritiya on Sunday (April 19, 2026). Many households believe buying on this auspicious festival will bring them wealth and prosperity, as gold bought on Akshaya Tritiya is thought to bestow wealth.

As per the AM retail prices updated by the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA) on Friday, fine gold (999 purity) is priced at Rs 15,136 per gram, 22 carat gold at Rs 14,773 per gram, 20 carat gold at Rs 13,471 per gram, 18 carat gold at Rs 12,260 per gram, and 14 carat gold at Rs 9,763 per gram.

Gold price today in Chennai (April 17, 2026)

In Chennai too, gold prices recorded a slight drop in line with the larger trend in India. As per the prices quoted by leading jewellery retailers in the city, the price of 24 karat gold was around Rs 15,431 per gram, down from Rs 15,568 per gram on Thursday. 22 karat gold was largely priced between Rs 14,135 and Rs 14,210 per gram.

Meanwhile, leading jewellery retailer Tanishq's latest price for 22k gold jewellery is Rs 14,175 per gram today in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. 24 carat gold at the Tata Group-owned jewellery retailer is at Rs 15,464 per gram, down from Rs 15,600 per gram on Tuesday.

Kalyan Jewellers' latest price for 22k gold jewellery is Rs 14,135 per gram, as against Rs 14,260 per gram on April 15, 2026, in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds' latest price for 22k gold jewellery on Tuesday is Rs 14,135 per gram. Joyalukkas also quoted a similar 22k gold price of Rs 14,135 per gram, while the 24k gold rate is priced at Rs 15,420 per gram, and 18k gold at the jeweller is retailing for Rs 11,667 per gram.
