Gold price in Chennai today (April 20, 2026): 24K, 22K gold rates at leading jewellers in the city, IBJA

Despite Sunday (April 19, 2026) being the auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya, gold demand largely remained subdued. Gold demand during the occasion slipped about 30% by volume this year. Notably, Akshaya Tritiya is one of India's most important gold buying festivals as it is considered auspicious to buy precious metals on the day.

Weighed down by a strong US dollar, precious metals gold and silver started the week on a weak note on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). On Monday (April 20, 2026), gold futures declined by Rs 1,310 to Rs 1,53,299 per 10 grams. However, price fluctuations were seen in the retail prices of the yellow metal across India.

As per the AM retail prices updated by the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA) on Monday, fine gold (999 purity) is priced at Rs 15,201 per gram, 22 carat gold at Rs 14,835 per gram, 20 carat gold at Rs 13,528 per gram, 18 carat gold at Rs 12,312 per gram and 14 carat at Rs 9,804 per gram.

Gold price today in Chennai (April 20, 2026)

As per the prices quoted by leading jewellery retailers in the city, the price of 24 karat gold was over Rs 15,500 per gram, down from Rs 15,400 per gram levels on Friday. 22 karat gold was largely priced between Rs 13,980 to Rs 14,235 per gram.

Other than these, the price of 22 karat gold at Lalitha Jewellery is Rs 14,235 per gram, while 22 carat gold is retailing at Rs 14,300 per gram at Swarna Maligai Jewellers, and 18 carat gold at Rs 11,855 per gram.

Meanwhile, leading jewellery retailer Tanishq's latest price for 22k gold jewellery is Rs 14,275 per gram today in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. 24 carat gold at the Tata-group owned jewellery retailer is at Rs 15,573 per gram, down from Rs 15,622 per gram on Tuesday.

Kalyan Jewellers' latest price for 22k gold jewellery is Rs 14,235 per gram, as against Rs 14,135 per gram on April 17, 2026, in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.

Malabar Gold & Diamonds' latest price for 22k gold jewellery on Tuesday is Rs 14,235 per gram. Joyalukkas also quoted a similar 22k gold price of Rs 14,235 per gram while 24k gold rate is priced at Rs 15,529 per gram and 18k gold at the jeweller is retailing for Rs 11,647 per gram.
