How much EPF can you withdraw to build house?
Earlier in October 2025, 13 types of partial withdrawal provisions were merged into one unified and simplified framework. Prior to the simplification of norms, an EPF member was allowed to withdraw only the employee contribution and interest ranging from 50-100%. Now, the withdrawable amount also includes employer contribution.
While some withdrawals, such as those for illness, have no limits for the number of claims, others are capped based on the purpose.

Now, 75% of the eligible amount that may now be withdrawn will be significantly more than what an EPF member could take out under the earlier rules.
When can you withdraw EPF money for housing needs?
Under the current Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) rules, an EPF member can withdraw up to 75% of their EPF balance for these housing needs.An EPF member can use the withdrawal facility for the following purposes:
Purchase of a house, flat or site
Construction of a house
Repair, renovation or improvement of a house or flat.

EPF withdrawal eligibility for housing
To avail the facility, an EPF member must have completed 12 months of EPF membership.How many times can you withdraw your EPF corpus for housing needs?
The facility can be used for a maximum of five times during your EPF membership.
Therefore, EPF members who have already used this withdrawal facility should keep the number of withdrawals in mind before making another claim.
How much EPF balance can be withdrawn?
An eligible EPF member can withdraw up to 75% of the EPF balance for the specified housing purposes.The withdrawal is subject to the purpose and eligibility conditions applicable to the EPF member.

EPF advance for illness
EPF members can withdraw money to meet medical expenses for themselves or their family members. There is no limit on the number of times an advance can be claimed for this purpose, subject to the applicable EPF rules.EPF advance for education
Members can withdraw EPF money to meet education-related expenses for themselves or their children. This facility can be availed up to 10 times during the entire period of EPF membership.EPF advance for marriage
EPF members can also withdraw money for marriage expenses of self or eligible family members. Such withdrawals are permitted up to five times during the membership period.EPF advance under special circumstances
Members can also apply for EPF advances under certain special circumstances notified by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), EPF. Such withdrawals are allowed up to two times in a financial year.Uniform withdrawal limit after 12 months of EPF membership
