Are banks open or closed today on September 15, 2026?

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s bank holiday list, banks will be closed in Gujarat, Odisha, and Goa to celebrate Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha) and Nuakhai.

Nuakhai festival in Odisha

Nuakhai is an agricultural festival mainly observed by the people of Western Odisha. Nuakhai is observed to welcome the new rice of the season. It is observed on the panchami tithi of the lunar fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada or Bhadraba, the day after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Samvatsari is the final, most sacred day of the Jain festival of Paryushana, dedicated entirely to forgiveness and spiritual introspection.

All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays along with Sundays and other regional holidays.

As per the RBI’s holiday calendar, banks will be closed in September 2026 on the occasions of Janmashtami (Vaishnava), elections in the jurisdiction of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, Ganesh Chaturthi, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Nuakhai/Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day), Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva/Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi.
