How to use the online insurance grievance mechanism

The facility can be used to register complaints against insurers (both life and non-life), brokers and intermediaries.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (Irda) has launched an online grievance redressal mechanism called the Integrated Grievance Management System (IGMS). The facility can be used to register complaints against insurers (both life and non-life), brokers and intermediaries. These could be related to processing the proposal, servicing a policy as well as claims.

A policyholder can register a grievance on the IGMS if he has not received a response from the concerned insurance company or the response is unsatisfactory. The turnaround time (TAT) is specified for each type of complaint and the site displays the date by which the complaint is expected to be addressed.

Register

The IGMS can be used by policyholders but they must first register themselves on the site www.igms.irda.gov.in/

Information

Apart from providing personal details and contact information, the complainant must select an identification number such as PAN, passport number, voter ID, etc.

Complaint

The complainant can log in using the identification number provided at the time of registration, as well as date of birth. After filing the complaint, a token number is generated for reference.

Submission

The status of the complaint can be monitored online based on the reference number. The complainant can also edit his grievance.
Points to note

Availing of IGMS facility: One can file a complaint with the IGMS only if it has already been registered with the concerned insurer’s grievance redressal mechanism.
Identification number: The complainant must ensure that the correct identification details are provided so that registering and monitoring of the complaint can be done efficiently.

Complaint details: All information relevant to the complaint must be kept handy while registering a complaint.
