Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced the launch of health insurance coverage for all senior citizens aged 70 and over, regardless of income, under the flagship initiative Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

All senior citizens who are 70 years of age or older will have health coverage, regardless of their financial situation. The only eligibility criterion is that the individual must be aged 70 years or above, as determined by the age recorded in their Aadhaar card, regardless of economic status.

A distinct Ayushman card will be issued to all eligible senior citizens aged 70 years and above.

What is the insurance benefit Ayushman Bharat

The Rs 5 lakh coverage is provided on a family basis. Note that the Rs 5 lakh annual limit is shared between them as part of the same family. The additional Rs 5 lakh coverage is only for family members aged 70 or above. The rest of the family will continue to receive their existing Rs 5 lakh coverage.

According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB) post on social media, “Now, every senior citizen above the age of 70 will receive free treatment in hospitals. These senior citizens will be issued the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card. This scheme is expected to be a milestone. If an elderly person in the household has the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card, family expenses will be reduced, and their worries will also diminish.”

How to apply for Ayushman Vaya Vandana card to avail of insurance benefit

Step 1: Download Ayushman APP
Step 2: Click on Login as beneficiary
Step 3: Enter Captcha, enter mobile number and select the mode of authentication and enter captcha again’ and click Login.
Step 3: Enter beneficiary details, Aadhaar details
Step 4: If a beneficiary is not found, follow the process for eKYC. Give consent for OTP.

Step 5: Provie declaration as applicable, capture photo and fill all the additional application
Step 6: Enter beneficiary mobile number and OTP
Step 7: Fill in details of beneficiary such as category, PIN code.
Step 8: Add family members details and proceed to submit

Step 9: E-KYC is completed, YOU can download the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card after some time after approval

Beneficiaries can begin accessing treatment from the first day of enrolment. There is no waiting period for any disease or treatment, so coverage starts immediately. There is no income limit set by the government for eligibility under this scheme. Any Indian citizen aged 70 or above is eligible, irrespective of income.
