Last month, the union government expanded free health coverage the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to senior persons over 70, regardless of their income.

The National Health Authority, which is in charge of implementing the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) of the Indian government, has received thought leadership from Google's research team to provide tools that facilitate developers' easy integration with the ABDM architecture. The Internet giant stated this in a blog posting on its website.

According to the Google blog post, “As a result, integrations that would have taken up to six months can now be finished and scaled in less than two weeks. Through a partnership with Eka Care, an authorized issuer of the digital health IDs, we will be making the ABHA ID cards available on Google Wallet starting next year.”

It further stated, “This will enable the more than 600 million ABHA ID holders to access their cards readily and easily on their smartphones.”

With the help of the health ID, individuals may effortlessly exchange and receive their medical records, including lab results and prescriptions, with partner healthcare organizations across the nation.


Ayushman Bharat Card on Google Wallet: How it works

When adding or using their ABHA Health ID in Google Wallet, users will need to authenticate their device using a fingerprint, PIN, or passcode to protect the privacy of sensitive health information.


What is Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)?

The Government of India has launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) for promoting digitization of healthcare and creating an open interoperable digital health ecosystem for the country. It aims to do so by prescribing common health data standards, developing core modules such as registry of health facilities, healthcare professionals etc required for interoperability; so that various digital health systems can interact with each other by enabling seamless sharing of data across various healthcare providers who may be using different digital health systems. Digitization of processes in the healthcare institutions shall be taken up by dovetailing various resources. Thus, ABDM seeks to bridge the gap among multiple stakeholders that are the part of the healthcare ecosystem.

What is Ayushman Bharat Health Account
Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) is an account/ number used to link all the health records of a person. ABHA intends to create a digital health ecosystem & aims to promote digitization of healthcare.

The Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) universal health ID, which attempts to provide the benefits of India's digital healthcare ecosystem to everyone, is a key component of the ABDM mission.

What information/documents are required for creating an ABHA Number?

ABHA number can be generated in two ways i.e. via Aadhaar and Driving licence in self-registration mode: Documents required while creating ABHA number through Aadhaar Card:
  • Aadhaar Number
  • Mobile number linked with Aadhaar number Documents required while creating ABHA number through Driving License:
  • Driving license
  • Name
  • DOB
  • Gender Going forward additional options to authenticate your identity shall also be provided.

How to create my ABHA Address?


An ABHA Address can be created through a PHR Application (such as ABHA Mobile Application). Further, there are two ways to create an ABHA Address:
a.) By using your allotted ABHA Number.

The senior citizens of the age 70 years and above belonging to families already covered under AB PM-JAY will get an additional top-up cover up to Rs 5 lakh per year for themselves (which they do not have to share with the other members of the family who are below the age of 70 years).


Up to Rs. 5 lakh in additional top-up insurance coverage would be provided to PMJAY annually. Senior citizens' supplementary insurance will be distinct from and will not be combined with other family members' coverage.
