Zane Gonzalez nailed a 43-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Atlanta Falcons a dramatic 29-28 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. Atlanta, down by 14 early in the fourth quarter, mounted an improbable rally to stun a Bucs team fighting for the NFC South lead. The Falcons took possession at their own 30 after forcing a punt at the two-minute warning. Facing a do-or-die fourth-and-14, Kirk Cousins delivered a clutch 21-yard strike to David Sills V, putting Atlanta within striking range at the Tampa Bay 36 with 30 seconds remaining. After gaining 11 more yards, Gonzalez stepped up and drilled the decisive kick.


Cousins was outstanding, completing 30 of 44 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Kyle Pitts Sr. turned in the best game of his career, racking up 166 yards and all three of Cousins’ touchdown passes on 11 receptions. The Falcons managed to win despite committing a franchise-record 19 penalties for 125 yards.



Baker Mayfield threw for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and a costly interception for Tampa Bay, which fell to 7-7 and lost crucial ground in the division race. The Buccaneers have now dropped five of their last six and sit a half-game behind the Carolina Panthers.


After trailing by one at halftime, Tampa Bay appeared to seize control with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns — a 6-yard pass to Devin Culp and a 3-yard score to Chris Godwin, followed by a two-point conversion, pushing the lead to 28-14.

Atlanta stormed back with Bijan Robinson’s rushing touchdown, Pitts’ third receiving TD, and a key interception by Dee Alford. Two failed two-point tries kept the Falcons behind, but Gonzalez’s final kick sealed a thrilling comeback and lifted Atlanta to 5-9.
