The New York Mets have agreed to a trade to acquire center fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox, ESPN reported on Tuesday night citing sources. In return, the White Sox will receive infielder Luisangel Acuña and right-handed pitcher Truman Pauley. The move strengthens the Mets’ roster and comes just four days after the team signed two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million contract, signaling an aggressive push to contend.

Robert, 28, endured the toughest season of his career at the plate last year, finishing with a .223 batting average. Still, he showed his athletic value by hitting 14 home runs and setting a career high with 33 stolen bases. A six-year MLB veteran, Robert enjoyed his best season in 2023, earning an All-Star nod after smashing 38 home runs and driving in 80 runs for the White Sox. He has also been recognized for his defense, winning a Gold Glove in 2020.

Acuña, 23, posted a .234 batting average and stole 16 bases in 95 games with the Mets. Pauley, 22, was selected by New York in the 12th round of this year’s MLB draft.
