In a headline-making move, the Philadelphia Eagles landed Jonathan Greenard in a blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Vikings. Philadelphia parted with two third-round picks - No. 98 in this year’s draft and another in 2027 - while also receiving a 2026 seventh-round selection, as reported by ESPN. Soon after the trade, Greenard agreed to a four-year, $100 million extension that includes $50 million in guaranteed money, confirming the franchise’s long-term commitment.

Greenard, a Pro Bowl edge rusher, has built a strong reputation for his explosiveness and relentless ability to pressure quarterbacks. Originally a third-round pick in the National Football League (NFL), he emerged as a consistent defensive force with his knack for sacks and tackles for loss. His standout performances earned him league-wide recognition and elevated his status among top pass rushers.

Now with Philadelphia, Greenard adds serious firepower to the Eagles’ defense. The move signals the team’s aggressive intent to contend, securing a proven playmaker entering his prime years.

Greenard, 28, began his career as a third-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2020. Over four seasons in Houston, he recorded 23 sacks before moving to the Vikings, where he added another 15 sacks across two years. His standout campaign came in 2024, when he notched 12.5 sacks and earned Pro Bowl honors, though he managed just three sacks last season.

Greenard now joins the Eagles, strengthening an outside linebacker unit that includes Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt, and Arnold Ebiketie. He had been a key defensive presence for Minnesota after signing a four-year, $72 million deal in 2024.

While a shoulder injury cut short his 2025 season and limited his production, Greenard still posted an impressive 13.5% pressure rate - ranking among the league’s best - highlighting his continued impact beyond raw sack numbers.
