Who is Bill Belichick? Check the reason behind eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach's Pro Football Hall of Fame snub
Bill Belichick has reportedly not been selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This news comes as a surprise ahead of the Class of 2026 announcement. Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl winner, did not secure enough votes from the selection commi...

Belichick’s resume is unmatched. He won a record six Super Bowls as head coach of the New England Patriots, compiling a 266-121 regular-season record over 24 seasons, including an undefeated regular season in 2007. He also captured two additional Super Bowl titles as defensive coordinator with the New York Giants, further cementing his legacy.
Earlier in the process, the Hall’s Coach Blue-Ribbon Committee named Belichick as its sole coaching finalist, beating out notable candidates such as Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Marty Schottenheimer, and Mike Shanahan. However, ESPN reported that Belichick was informed last Friday that he fell short in the final voting stage.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is determined by a 50-member selection committee made up of media members and historians. To be inducted, a candidate must secure at least 40 votes, or 80 percent approval, and there is no assurance of being elected on the first ballot.
WHO IS BILL BELICHICK?
Bill Belichick is a three-time NFL Coach of the Year and was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team in 2019, further underscoring his place among the game’s elite. He finished his head-coaching career with 302 wins across stints with the Cleveland Browns from 1991 to 1995 and the New England Patriots, ranking third on the NFL’s all-time wins list behind only Don Shula and George Halas.
Belichick captured a record 17 division titles, the most by any head coach in NFL history, and won nine conference championships, the highest total by a coach in the Super Bowl era. Overall, he appeared in 12 Super Bowls, including his years as an assistant with the Giants.
However, the final chapter of his NFL tenure was less dominant. Following Tom Brady’s departure to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - where the quarterback went on to win a Super Bowl without him - the Patriots struggled, posting a 29-38 record over Belichick’s last four seasons in New England. In a surprising move, Belichick later transitioned to college football, taking his first head-coaching job at North Carolina. That experiment got off to a rough start, with the Tar Heels enduring a disappointing 4-8 campaign in his debut season.
