Djokovic thoroughly enjoyed his dominant Wimbledon outing, needing less than 100 minutes to brush aside Stefanos Tsitsipas with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory. With the contest firmly under control, the Serbian star appeared completely at ease throughout the evening.
The light-hearted moment arrived between the second and third sets while Tsitsipas left the court for a bathroom break. Djokovic was attempting to trim a loose piece of material from his shirt and called over a ballgirl for assistance. As she stepped in to help, the 24-time Grand Slam winner suddenly acted as if the scissors had cut him, briefly startling her. Realizing it was only a prank, she quickly laughed it off, and the crowd enjoyed the playful exchange. He immediately apologized, and the ballgirl quickly broke into a smile once she realized it was all part of a harmless joke.
After the match, Djokovic revisited the incident during his on-court interview and offered another apology.
"This kind of thing surfaces when you're two sets to love up," he said.
"I'm sorry if I scared her. It was probably not that great of a joke. It made me a bit more relaxed."
The seven-time Wimbledon champion will next take on No. 25 seed Arthur Rinderknech in Friday's third-round clash.
