Portugal wrapped up its World Cup preparations with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria, but the result came with a few missed opportunities for veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese captain was unable to find the net despite getting two excellent scoring chances during the match in Leiria. On both occasions, Ronaldo found himself in promising one-on-one situations but could not convert, leaving his record international goal tally (143) unchanged. The 41-year-old remained on the field until the 65th minute, longer than any other starting outfield player, before being replaced as Portugal rotated its squad.


Despite the missed chances, Portugal showed enough quality to secure the win. Pedro Neto opened the scoring midway through the first half, giving the hosts an early advantage. Nigeria, which did not qualify for the upcoming World Cup, responded through Akor Adams, who leveled the score before halftime.



The decisive moment arrived in the 75th minute when substitute Francisco Conceição produced a superb finish. Cutting in from the right flank, he curled a precise shot into the far corner to restore Portugal's lead and seal the victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo is poised to make history by appearing in his sixth FIFA World Cup, equaling the all-time record for tournament appearances. Portugal will kick off its Group K campaign on June 17 in Houston, where it is scheduled to face Congo before taking on Uzbekistan and Colombia in the group stage.
