In a shocking incident, Victor Wembanyama exited the playoff clash between the San Antonio Spurs and the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday after suffering a head injury that raised concerns of a possible concussion. The injury forced the young star to leave the court and head to the locker room for evaluation. Wembanyama was ruled out for the rest of the game after a scary fall during the second quarter of the playoff clash. The French star stumbled following a collision with Jrue Holiday and hit his head hard on the court. Wembanyama, who made history as the youngest-ever Defensive Player of the Year and the first unanimous winner, left the game with 8:57 left in the second quarter.

Wembanyama appeared shaken as he lay on the floor before slowly getting up and heading to the locker room. The Spurs later confirmed he had entered concussion protocol, ruling him out of the remainder of Game 2 in the Western Conference series.

The injury comes just a day after the 22-year-old was named the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year. Wembanyama surpassed Dwight Howard, who was 23 years and 128 days old when he won the award in 2008-09 with the Orlando Magic. He had starred in Game 1, scoring 35 points in San Antonio’s win over Portland.

At halftime, the Spurs were locked at 57-57 with the Portland Trail Blazers. Wembanyama finished with five points, four rebounds, and one block in just 11 minutes on the court.

The Spurs have returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2019 and started strong by defeating the Blazers in Game 1 of the series.

Scoot Henderson poured in 31 points as the Blazers capitalized on an injury to Wembanyama to secure a 106-103 comeback win over the Spurs, leveling their Western Conference playoff series at 1-1.

The series now moves to Moda Center for Games 3 and 4, scheduled for Friday and Sunday.
