Ubisoft Games canceled: Prince of Persia remake and five other titles scrapped, seven games delayed, studios closed in major company overhaul

French video game publisher Ubisoft announced on Wednesday, January 21 a sweeping company restructure, resulting in several Ubisoft games being canceled, including the highly anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake. The changes also involve delays to seven other Ubisoft games, closures of two studios, and potential layoffs across additional offices.

In order to support Ubisoft's strategic focus, the announcement of the New Operating Model focused on five specialized "Creative Houses," each of which was devoted to a particular creative genre.

Six Ubisoft games canceled

Of the six Ubisoft games canceled, only Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has been publicly named. Three of the canceled projects were new IPs, while another was a mobile game. Ubisoft’s renewed focus will prioritize open-world titles and live-service experiences, signaling a major shift in the company’s strategic direction.

Seven Ubisoft games delayed

Ubinox’s restructure also affects seven other Ubisoft games, including an unannounced title originally slated for release. Multiple gaming outlets expected it to be the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remaster. These games are now scheduled to launch in the next financial year, 2027.

Ubinox games studio closures

As part of the overhaul, Ubisoft Stockholm will fully close, having previously collaborated on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The mobile studio Ubisoft Halifax is also affected. Other offices, including Ubisoft Abu Dhabi, RedLynx, and Massive, home to The Division, will see restructurings and possible layoffs because of the ‘cost reduction program.’ Additionally, all teams will return to in-office work five days a week, though an annual allowance for remote work will be provided, as per the press release.

Ubisoft games launches five ‘Creative Houses’

The company is restructuring around five “Creative Houses,” each focused on a distinct creative genre and responsible for both development and market strategy. These include:

• CH1 – Vantage Studios: Scaling established franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
  
• CH2: Competitive and cooperative shooters, including The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell.
  
• CH3: Live experiences like For Honor, The Crew, Riders Republic, Brawlhalla, and Skull & Bones.
  
• CH4: Immersive fantasy worlds and narrative-driven universes, including Anno, Might & Magic, Rayman, Prince of Persia, and Beyond Good & Evil.
  
• CH5: Casual and family-friendly games like Just Dance, Idle Miner Tycoon, Ketchapp, Hungry Shark, and Uno.
  

Each Creative House will have dedicated leadership, financial accountability, and a focus on engaging player communities early in development. Ubisoft also has four new IPs in progress, including March of Giants, with details on their Creative House alignment to be shared later.

Ubisoft games financial restructure

The company has withdrawn its previous financial guidance, now expecting net bookings of around €1.5 billion ($1.75 billion), a decline of €330 million ($386 million) compared to prior projections.
