Tennis star Sloane Stephens announced her split from her husband, former soccer player Jozy Altidore, on Saturday (February 21, 2026). She shared the news of the separation on Instagram stories, saying that this transition is being done with mutual respect.

“Jozy and I have decided to end our marriage. With peace, I am navigating this transition with mutual respect and kindly ask for privacy during this time. Thank you for your love, understanding and continued support,” she wrote. Without revealing any reason behind the separation, she asked for privacy.

TMZ obtained and reviewed divorce documents filed by Stephens earlier in February 2026 in Florida. In the documents, she called the marriage "irretrievably broken," the outlet reported. While Altidore has a child from a previous relationship, the two don't have any kids together.

Stephens and Altidore: Inside their love story


Stephens, who won the US Open in 2017, and Altidore met while still in middle school. According to TMZ, the two did not get together until they reconnected in 2016. The duo married on January 1, 2022, in Miami Beach, FL.

Altidore is a retired soccer pro. He played in both Major League Soccer and abroad from 2006 to 2022. According to TMZ, he also scored 42 goals in 115 appearances for the United States Men's National Team.

Stephens, who turned pro in 2009, has suffered several injuries over the last few years. Despite the injuries, she made it to the Australian Open in January 2026. She was once ranked number 3 in the world. The World Tennis Association (WTA), however, has ranked her 775 currently.

Born on March 20, 1993, in Plantation, Florida, USA, Stephens plays right-handed and has achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 3, according to WTA. She began playing tennis at the age of nine after her mother introduced her to the sport in Fresno, California. Clay is her favorite surface.

Off the court, Stephens comes from a sporting family. Her mother, Sybil Smith, was a collegiate swimmer, and she has a brother, Shawn Farrell. Beyond tennis, she has wide-ranging interests and enjoys fashion, beauty, music, and spending time with her family.

Stephens is also deeply committed to giving back. She founded the Sloane Stephens Foundation in 2013 and remains extremely passionate about its mission, dedicating significant time to expanding its programs and outreach initiatives.

Sloane Stephens has reached at least the quarterfinal stage at three different Grand Slams. At the US Open, she won the title in 2017 and later advanced to the quarterfinals in 2018. She also produced a strong run at the French Open, finishing as runner-up in 2018 and reaching the quarterfinals in both 2019 and 2022. Additionally, she made the semifinals at the Australian Open in 2013 and reached the quarterfinals at the Wimbledon Championships the same year.
