Pumas stun Puebla with late comeback at Cuauhtémoc despite early control by hosts

Ahead of Matchday 6, Puebla defender Eduardo Navarro had stressed the importance of solidity and consistency, summarizing the team’s approach with a clear message: “If you don’t win, don’t lose either.” The young center-back had also assured fans that the squad would maintain the same intensity shown in the opening matches of the season.

On Friday night, January 13 at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc, that mindset was put to the test as Club Puebla let slip a two-goal lead to fall 3–2 to Pumas UNAM in Liga MX. Puebla had taken control early and looked on course to back up Navarro’s words with a valuable home result.

However, the turning point came after the break. Following a VAR review, Pumas were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute, which Morales calmly converted to make it 2–2. With the match heading toward a draw, Juninho sealed the comeback in the 87th minute, finishing a diagonal ball with an emphatic half-volley.



The defeat was a frustrating outcome for Puebla, particularly after Navarro had underlined during the week that the team’s continued faith in him and the defensive unit was built on daily work and collective responsibility.
