The match was made official following ZERO1’s 25th Anniversary event on April 3. As per the English-language Japanese wrestling magazine Monthly Puroresu during that show, Matsunaga captured the ZERO1 World Heavyweight Title by defeating Tanaka, fulfilling his goal of becoming a double champion. After the win, Matsunaga invited Nakajima, who had beaten him earlier in February, to join forces. Nakajima, who also appeared at the anniversary event to confirm his entry in the 2026 Fire Festival, accepted the proposal.
ZERO1 later announced on social media that the newly formed duo would meet Tanaka and Hayabusa in Urayasu.
All four competitors are scheduled participants in the Fire Festival 2026 tournament, making the match a preview of the annual competition set to begin in June.
The card will also feature a title bout. The Great Sasuke and Fuminori Abe will challenge champions Yuki Toki and Van Vert Jack for the International Lightweight Tag Team Titles.
