John Cena has officially confirmed that he is returning to WWE in a new role, marking a major new chapter in his post-wrestling career. After stepping away from in-ring competition, the 17-time world champion revealed via social media that he will serve as the host of WrestleMania 42, keeping him closely connected to the company without returning to active competition. Cena’s announcement comes after his retirement in December 2025, ending a legendary 23-year career in professional wrestling. Even after retirement, Cena hinted that his association with WWE was not over. In a video posted on his official X account, he teased his return in a new capacity, saying his 'road' had changed but confirming his involvement with WrestleMania in Las Vegas.

"Since retirement, my "road" has looked a little different... but now I can officially say I'm headed to WrestleMania!!!! See you in Las Vegas!" he said in the video.

Cena's final match took place at Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he faced Gunther in a hard-fought bout that ultimately saw him tap out, closing the curtain on his in-ring journey. During that final run, Cena delivered several unforgettable moments, including a historic victory at WrestleMania 41, where he defeated Cody Rhodes to win a record-breaking 17th world championship. That achievement further solidified his status as one of WWE’s all-time greats.

Now officially announced as host, Cena’s role ensures he remains a prominent presence at WWE’s biggest event while avoiding the physical demands of competition. WrestleMania 42, set for April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, will feature him guiding the show through its high-profile matches.
