Fight Night arrives at the iconic Pyramids of Giza, setting the stage for a blockbuster heavyweight showdown. Oleksandr Usyk puts his WBC title on the line against kickboxing powerhouse Rico Verhoeven in a clash of elite champions. Usyk, known for his speed, footwork, and ring intelligence, faces a dangerous challenge from Verhoeven, whose size, power, and striking dominance make him a unique threat.

With history, pride, and gold at stake under Egypt’s ancient skyline, this fight promises drama, intensity, and global attention. The announcement was made on Friday that Usyk will take on Verhoeven at 'Glory in Giza' on May 23 in Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza, the largest pyramid in Egypt, was built around 2600 BC and is made up of an estimated 2.3 million enormous stone blocks. It stands as the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and is the only one still standing today.



The fight, which will be streamed live on DAZN, marks Usyk’s first appearance in the ring since July 2025. In that bout, he stopped Daniel Dubois with a fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium. Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs), who holds WBC, WBA and IBF titles, is the pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter in the world.

"I truly respect people who reach the very top in their sport. Rico is one of them - a powerful athlete and a great champion. He's truly the king of Kickboxing. Being a champion isn't just about belts," Usyk said as quoted by The Ring.

"I'm ready and looking forward to meeting him in the ring. It's going to be a unique experience for both of us, a big night is coming!"

Meanwhile, Verhoeven enters the contest with a dominant 66-10 kickboxing record. Despite his success in kickboxing, he has limited experience in professional boxing, having fought just once in 2014, when he defeated Janos Finfera by second-round knockout.

"I spent twelve years as the undisputed heavyweight kickboxing champion and accomplished everything I set out to accomplish. But staying at the top for that long didn't take away from the hunger, it strengthened it," Verhoeven said of his fight against Usyk.

"Usyk is undisputed in boxing. That's the kind of challenge that motivated me. Undisputed versus undisputed. The best versus the best."

Verhoeven is widely regarded as a kickboxing legend and stands as the longest-reigning heavyweight champion in the history of GLORY. Known for his power, discipline, and dominance, Verhoeven built an outstanding kickboxing record of 66 wins and 10 losses, including 21 knockouts.
