According to reports, the Giants have agreed to trade the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle to the Bengals in exchange for the No. 10 overall selection. The move would give New York two picks in the top 10, as the team is already scheduled to choose fifth overall.
USA TODAY Sports confirmed the development, citing two people with direct knowledge of the situation. The people requested anonymity because the move is not yet finalized.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also confirmed the trade, saying, “Draft week blockbuster: The Giants are trading three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals in a deal that will include the 10th overall pick going to New York, per ESPN sources. The Giants now head into Thursday night with the 5th and 10th overall picks.”
The defensive tackle, who is currently on a four-year, $87.5 million pact running through the 2027 season, had reportedly requested a trade earlier this month. He was said to be unhappy with the existing terms of his deal, according to USA TODAY.
If finalized, this would mark the first time since 2022 that the New York Giants hold two selections inside the top 10. The team also had multiple first-round moves last year, selecting pass rusher Abdul Carter third overall before trading back into the first round to draft quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25.
The Bengals trade for Dexter Lawrence would strengthen Cincinnati’s defensive front, while the Giants draft picks for 2026 could reshape their roster as the NFL draft approaches.
